Scores of freshwater eels inhabit the cave, and interesting geological formations can be found within. Vortex Spring is also a favorite for cave divers, as it contains an underwater cave system measured at over 1,600 feet long. The main part of the spring consists of a basin with sloping sides, where groups of carp and other docile freshwater fish can be found in abundance. A cold, freshwater spring that links to the Floridian aquifer, this site is popular with SCUBA divers for the crystal clear waters and steady temperature of around 68 degrees, no matter what time of year.
